Our current heating system has reached the end of it's life and although the furnaces are still working, they need to be replaced. Even if we just replaced our current furnaces, with changes in building codes and requirements, we would need to increase the electrical power coming into our facility and improve the ducting system, fresh air returns and balancing the air movement. We want to include air conditioning into the new system as well to support our aging community.
Although we are applying for grants to various levels of government to support this upgrade, as the Bowness Seniors' Centre, we are contributing to our HVAC system. As a Seniors' Centre we feel that to service the aging population in our community, we should become a heating and cooling station for our community.
Our goal is $250,000.00.
Our Rationale for this request: Older populations are more likely to be on fixed income, may not have access to air conditioning. may have older heating units in their homes, or may be unable to afford consistent heating in their homes. Any of one of these issues would make those people more vulnerable to heat stroke or hypothermia. As people age, their ability to regulate their internal temperature in response to activities. stress or environmental temperatures decreases, making them more vulnerable to extremes of both heat and cold.
Please help our Centre.
