Our Motto is: Where Good Friends Meet.
The Bowness Seniors' Centre provides a venue where people who are 50 plus years of age can be supported in their physical and mental health in a safe accessible facility. We provide programs that members and people from the community can access affordably. Programs include: classes for fitness, crafts and bridge; group games of floor curling, shuffleboard, billiards; card games of bridge, euchre, crib, whist; free lending library of books and puzzles, as well as a book club; Tea and Conversation with specific topics or learning opportunities such as grandparent scams, how to read you energy bill, how to be safe in your own home, digital literacy, etc.; Social events which include lunch/dinner with entertainment.
Our plan is to support the seniors in out community through increasing their safety through digital educations, increase their connection through use of video calls and improved safe use of social media; identification of online, email and physical scams, physical balance & stability; support mental health through connections, speakers and courses; address food insecurity through building a community garden and support this with learning sessions regarding preparing and preserving food stuff. The garden would be a place to grow and enjoy even for those who do not have plots. The garden would be accessible for those using mobilities aids which would allow members and the community at large to take advantage of the space.
In our various events and activities we also partner with other associations in our community to increase interaction with a diverse population.
