North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance Society

For more than 25 years, the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance (NSWA) has built collaborative partnerships to steadily improve how we steward our rivers, wetlands, and lakes, using the best and most applicable science and knowledge. The NSWA is a not-for-profit organization and a registered charity that receives strategic direction and guidance from our elected Board of Directors. As one of 11 Government of Alberta-designated Watershed Planning and Advisory Councils (WPACs), NSWA is mandated to improve water and watershed health to achieve the goals and strategic directions of Alberta’s Water for Life Strategy.

NSWA has four core functions from which more specific projects and programs evolve. These include:
1. Assessment and reporting on the State of the North Saskatchewan Watershed.
a. The NSWA uses innovative, science-based methods to evaluate ecosystem health, watershed function, and the quality of adaptive planning and governance throughout the region.
2. Engaging in Integrated Watershed Management Planning (IWMP) by creating strategies, tools and initiatives for utilization across the watershed and among NSWA partners.
3. Promoting watershed education and outreach by communicating the challenges we face in the watershed and supporting those who work to improve watershed health.
4. Acting as a convenor of people, partners, and perspectives to deliver our services through inclusive partnerships and provide objective, unbiased, and trusted information and advice.
