The Great Divide Trail Association (GDTA) is a registered charity #761911718RR0001 and Canadian not-for-profit corporation headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. The GDTA is dedicated to building, maintaining, protecting and promoting the Great Divide Trail as a significant long-distance trail in the Rocky Mountains of Canada.
The Great Divide Trail traverses the continental divide between Alberta and British Columbia, wandering through the vast wilderness of the Canadian Rocky Mountains for more than 1,100 kilometres. It is one of the most spectacular and challenging long-distance hiking and equestrian trails in the world.
Our current priorities include:
• Trail construction of 45 km of new trail on the High Rock Trail section of the Great Divide Trail (GDT) in Alberta
• Bridge and trail construction on the David Thompson Heritage Trail section of the GDT in B.C.
• Yearly maintenance of over a hundred kilometres of trail along the GDT route.
• Providing up-to-date trip planning resources for hikers and equestrians on our website and social media
• Presenting educational and safety workshops and events for trail users, volunteers and the general public.
• Advocating for the formal recognition and protection of the GDT
The GDTA works with regional authorities and government agencies to coordinate trail improvements, maintenance and protection. We are supported by members of the general public, hikers, equestrians, volunteers and funders. Their contributions help continue the legacy of the Great Divide Trail and preserve its wilderness experience for generations to come.
