Youth Programs

by THE WRITERS' GUILD OF ALBERTA

We’re committed to mentoring the next generation of Alberta writers and offer programs just for writers ages 12 - 19.

Our most popular program is the WordsWorth Summer Youth Creative Writing Residency, held annually at Kamp Kiwanis in Bragg Creek, Alberta. WordsWorth features a mix of creative writing, other arts forms, and outdoor activities. Young writers at WordsWorth have shared that WordsWorth is not just about writing for them, but also provides a safe space for them to be themselves and form lifelong friendships with like-minded youth. Here's a sampling of what they have to say:

“Here I feel very welcome and have the chance to meet some amazing people who share the same passion as me and can teach me to write better.”

“It’s such a wonderful environment. You learn, but it doesn’t feel like school, and every single person here is kind (not to mention talented). Going to WordsWorth is a magical experience.”

"I came here as a scared 15 year old and I'm leaving at 19 as a confident, creative, empowered man. WordsWorth taught me what real friendship was, what real art is, and what kind of person I can become. This camp has change me so much for the better. It is my home, and although it is time to leave, the goodbye is bittersweet. Thanks you for making this place exist."

We would like to be able to provide more programming year-round for youth, so your donations will go a long way toward making that possible.
