Help Us Grow!

by CALGARY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

The Society receives grants for many of the programs that we offer. However, the funds received cover about half our operating costs. To further support our operations, we offer fee-based talks, classes, and events. We are seeking to building an operating reserve to smooth transitions between programming grant cycles. We are also willing to discuss program sponsorship with a donor organization with values that align to the Society's.

The Calgary Horticultural Society is a registered charity dedicated to cultivating Calgary’s gardening community. With 3,000 plus members, we are one of the largest and most active gardening organizations. The Society has been cultivating Calgary's gardening community since 1908. The Society’s mandate is to educate, promote and support Gardening in the Calgary area. Calgary has a challenging growing environment. We want all gardeners to be successful. The Society is driven by the belief that as the gardening community grows, the city’s quality of life is enhanced, and so is the environment.

Our devoted staff works year-round to develop and deliver quality educational programs that help local gardeners meet the challenges of Calgary’s unique microclimate.
Every year we strive to offer new programs and expand our gardening community. In addition to in-person programs, we offer Zoom sessions, YouTube video, and use a Learning Management system.

In addition to providing educational opportunities and operating an office in the Silver Springs Community Associations (5720 Silver Ridge Drive NW), staff and volunteers work together to host a website, publish a magazine eight times a year and a weekly e-newsletter. This team hosts talks and workshops at the Society office and in the community, organize and host garden tours and special events, grows a demonstration and teaching garden, and nurture a network of community gardens through our Community Gardens program.

Vision: Gardening for Life!

Mission: To encourage gardening for the enhancement of our environment and quality of life.

We host two signature events:
Think Spring! February 6, 2027 is an online day for gardening education
The Gardeners' Market April 25, 2026 is an event that brings gardeners of all experience levels together to discover what’s happening in the local world of gardening and ignites our garden season. Our exhibitors include garden centres, garden service suppliers, garden decor creators, gardening product providers, and specialty plant groups—it’s an event dedicated to gardening right here in Calgary.

We are seeking program partners and donors to help us continue to offer programming for the next 100+ years!
