Sing for Life Society of Alberta

Sing for Life is a charitable organization dedicated to bringing the performing arts to marginalized people in Edmonton. Our music-based programs target women in conflict with the law and men in downtown Edmonton experiencing economic and social challenges.

Sing for Life has a dove-tailed focus on social and musical development. Socially, participatory music-making brings numerous health and social benefits to our participants, such as improving personal well-being and building trust and cooperation. Yet the focus on musical excellence is equally important. Sing for Life programming is delivered by professional musicians and music educators, ensuring high standards of quality in programming for participants.

Our programs include:

Performing arts program for incarcerated women at the federal Edmonton Institution for Women, including the New Beginnings Choir, lessons in piano and voice, and occasional performing arts workshops.

The Edmonton Downtown Men’s Choir, designed to include men who are in transition rebuilding their lives. The core performance group of men from diverse backgrounds performs at many Edmonton locations, from concert spaces to soup kitchens,
