Bright Lights for Africa Foundation (BLFA) is a charitable, non-profit organization operating in both Canada and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). We empower marginalized communities by addressing critical needs, fostering resilience, and promoting self-sufficiency.

In Canada, our work centers on supporting Francophones of African descent in Calgary and surrounding areas through culturally sensitive programs that break systemic barriers, enhance well-being, and create pathways to long-term success.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), we partner with vulnerable, rural, and conflict-affected communities — especially women and youth — to expand access to education, economic opportunity, leadership development, and community resilience.

Our work is guided by one core belief: When people are seen, supported, and empowered, communities thrive.

Why Musenge? Why Now?

Musenge is more than just a village — it is the educational and cultural heart of Kiundila, one of the most remote and conflict-affected areas in Walikale Territory, North Kivu, Eastern Congo. For years, families have faced displacement, insecurity, and systemic neglect. The region remains cut off from development, and the children of Musenge carry the burden.

After fleeing renewed violence in early 2025, many families are now returning — only to face the same harsh reality: poverty keeps children out of school. With school fees unaffordable and basic supplies out of reach, hundreds of children remain at home — especially girls, who are the first to be pulled from classrooms during crisis.

But these children — especially girls and teenage mothers — are not statistics.
They are leaders in the making. And they deserve the chance to thrive.

Our Impact So Far

In 2024, with your support, 58 children in Musenge were sent back to school:

31 girls, including 3 teenage mothers

27 boys from displaced and low-income families

Each child received full support for the academic year: school fees, uniforms, shoes, and supplies. For many, it was their first time attending school with dignity and consistency.

Our Vision: Education Without Barriers

For the 2025–2026 school year, we aim to support 75 children — helping them return to the classroom with confidence and hope.

With your support, we will:

Cover school fees for an entire academic year

Provide full school kits: backpacks, uniforms, shoes, and supplies

Prioritize access for girls, teenage mothers, and the most vulnerable

Promote resilience, dignity, and future opportunity through education

Break the cycle of poverty through access, equity, and hope
