Rise Like a Phoenix!
On Friday, April 18th, 2025, a raging wildfire caused significant damage to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (UCHV) living history museum. The entire Visitor Center was lost, along with the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society's offices and supplies, giftshop, and donor recognition wall. We are determined to maintain operations and contribute in whatever way we can to the recovery of the Ukrainian Village.
The Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society is on a mission to pick up the pieces and help open the museum, with quality programming, as safely and soon as possible. With your support, we can keep telling the story of the settlement of east central Alberta through a Ukrainian perspective!
As the UCHV celebrates its 50th Anniversary, we will strive to positively reinforce the recovery of the museum. Our charity has already been impacted by the cancellation of field trips, catered banquets, several special events, and our summer day camp. We are there now, and we will be there when the museum opens!
To date, our museum recovery efforts include allocating space in our Silska Domiwka/Red Barn for FoUVS and UCHV staff offices and Visitor Reception, employment of staff for site rejuvenation (cleanup, pruning, painting) and artifact cataloguing, and facility enhancement for future summer day camp children's programming.
We need your help to continue our mission.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
